Dear Parents,
We are excited to share an enriching opportunity for our students to participate in the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month contests organized by the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida. This year’s theme is “Honoring Hispanic Contributions to Florida’s Success,” and the contests are a wonderful way for students to explore and celebrate the impact of Hispanic culture on our state.
Student Art Contest (Grades K-3):
Kindergarten through third-grade students are invited to submit original, two-dimensional artwork inspired by the theme. Four statewide winners will be selected, each receiving a $100 gift card for school supplies and a 1-year pass to Florida State Parks.
Student Essay Contest (Grades 4-12):
Students in grades 4-12 are encouraged to participate in the essay contest. Six winners will be selected across elementary, middle, and high school categories, each receiving a 2-year Florida College Plan scholarship and a $100 gift card for school supplies. Essays should be no longer than 500 words and highlight a Hispanic American significantly contributing to Florida’s success. Examples are listed on the www.FloridaHispanicHeritage.com website.
Excellence in Education Award:
In addition to student contests, nominations are open for the Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award. This award recognizes outstanding full-time educators in Florida. Four winners will be selected to receive $2,500, and nominations can be submitted by students, parents, teachers, or principals.
